Asko Pohla

Asko Pohla was born on August 10, 1964. He graduated Faculty of Law of Tartu University in 1989 (cum laude) and Georgetown University Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in 1994.

He worked in National Foreign Trade Association “Estimpex” as legal counsellor 1989 – 1991; Tallinn City Government as Head of Legal Department 1991 – 1993; Law Firm Miller & Chevalier (Washington D.C.)

as summer associate 1994; Law Firm Raidla & Partners as attorney at law 1994 – 1996; Law Firm Pohla & Hallmägi as attorney at Law from 1996, at the present time managing partner.

He is specialized in domestic and international arbitration, maritime law, transport law, contract law, property law, law on obligations.

Asko Pohla is an expert in domestic and international arbitration law. He is

chairman of the Arbitration Court of Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1997, member of the ICSID Panels of Conciliators and Arbitrators from 2013 and Member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR from 2018. He was member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration 2012-2018.

He has been arbitrator in the following arbitration institutions: International Court of Arbitration of the ICC, International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (on the list), International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (on the list), Court of Arbitration of Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arbitration Court of Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (on the non-mandatory list).

Asko Pohla was member and chairman of the Commission of Estonian Bar exams 2006-2011. He is member of IBA from 1996.

He is speaking Estonian (native language) and fluent English and Russian.
